CHILDREN'S PRIVACY POLICY

Last Updated: February 2026

Introduction

This Children's Privacy Policy explains how platyra ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects personal information about children under 13 years of age.

Our platform is designed for parent-managed child accounts. Children may only use the platform with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

Information We Collect

For child accounts, we collect only the minimum information necessary to provide educational services:

  • Display Name: A name chosen by the parent or guardian to identify the child within the platform
  • User ID: An auto-generated identifier used for login and account management
  • Learning Progress: Information about the child's progress through educational content
  • Created Projects: Code and projects created by the child while using the platform

Information We Do NOT Collect from Children

We do not collect the following information from children:

  • Email addresses
  • Social media information
  • Location data
  • Photos or videos
  • Voice recordings

How We Use Children's Information

We use children's information solely to:

  • Provide educational services
  • Track learning progress
  • Save the child's projects
  • Allow parents or guardians to manage the child's account

We do not use children's personal information for advertising or marketing purposes.

Parental Consent

Before collecting any personal information from a child, we require verifiable parental consent, as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

By creating or managing a child account, the parent or legal guardian consents to the collection and use of the child's information as described in this policy.

Data Sharing

We do not sell children's personal information.

We may share limited information only with trusted service providers who help us operate the platform, and only under confidentiality and data-protection obligations, or if required by law.

AI Code Checking

Our platform includes an AI-powered code-checking feature that sends your child's code and the associated lesson objectives to OpenAI for analysis. No personal information — such as your child's name, user ID, or any other identifying data — is included in these requests. Only the code your child writes and the lesson objectives are shared. This feature requires separate parental consent at the time of account creation.

Parental Rights

Parents and legal guardians have the right to:

  • Review their child's personal information
  • Request deletion of their child's account and data
  • Refuse further collection or use of their child's information by locking or deleting the child's account from the parent dashboard

Locking a child's account immediately prevents all access to the platform, including AI code checking. Deleting the account permanently removes the child's data. There is no option to selectively disable individual features such as AI code checking while keeping the account active.

Data Retention

We retain children's personal information only as long as necessary to provide the service.

A child's information is deleted:

  • Upon a parent or guardian's request, or
  • When the associated parent account is closed

For internal compliance records (such as consent and account lifecycle events), we apply the following retention schedule:

  • IP addresses and browser identifiers are removed from all records within 90 days
  • Age verification records are deleted after 2 years
  • Email verification records are deleted after 1 year
  • Account lifecycle records (creation, lock, unlock) are deleted after 3 years
  • Consent and account deletion records are retained indefinitely with personal identifiers removed

Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect children's information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
